When I hear that familiar iconic tune jingling in the distance from the Mr Whippy truck, I start creating the kind of ice cream I am going to have in my mind. Starting with the obvious basics - that I don't really have to think that hard about. A cone and some whipped ice cream. Done. Where I have my fun with Mr Whippy is with the toppings. Will I have it chocolate dipped? Covered in hundreds and thousands or chocolate sprinkles or nuts? With a flake, toffee or with fruit sticks? Maybe sherbert for a change? Style for me is a similar concept when getting dressed in the morning. I KNOW I am going to wear clothes...what happens after that is like dressing the icecream and giving it my own flavour to suit my taste. Will I wear a dress, or pants? a jacket or a top? Do I want to top it off with a hat or a cable knit scarf and gloves? Boots or heels? For me personally, I try to stay away from the everyday 'mundane-ness' of reaching for the same things in my wardrobe. Because when I do that they become like a kind of a uniform. bland and tasteless. It would be like ordering only the cone with a little bit of vanilla ice cream from Mr Whippy. Where is the fun in that? So i like to mix it up a bit. It keeps me amused. And if life and fashion are not for my amusement - then what are they for? SO i have fun with my ice cream. I wear bright yellow shoes, a khaki crop jacket with a pink 50's frock. Cue my favourite MAC lippy: "Girl about Town" and Colours of Australis: "Kiss me Quick" lip liner, and I am out the door. Tomorrow, I'll have it chocolate dipped...
The trick is to allow myself the time to choose the different tastes that I want to experience, and to know that it is ok to make it up as I go along. When I hear the Mr Whippy jingle, it is time to get creative. Likewise, when I choose an outfit to wear - I try different combinations and accessories until my look suits my mood/tastes for that day, and sure i have tried and tested favourites - but the fun is to adapt them and wear them in a new way, especially when the new season rolls around with new additions to the 'Fashion palate'. I can't wait to try the Cookie snowman!
